FROM OUR FLOWER FARM
Flowers grown with the seasons.
At Protea & Bloom, flowers are grown slowly and thoughtfully on our family property in Pirongia. From tiny seedlings to freshly picked stems, everything begins with healthy soil, a love of growing and working alongside nature.
Our flowers change with the seasons, bringing something new to the flower field throughout the year. From spring blooms and colourful summer favourites to our much-loved proteas, everything is grown, picked and gathered with care.
You’ll find our flowers in bouquets, bloom buckets, weddings and events, or simply waiting for you at the roadside stall.

Meet our proteas.
Proteas are at the heart of Protea & Bloom and one of the main crops grown here on the farm.
We grow five different varieties, with our protea season generally running from February through to September. With plenty of plants of each variety, stems can be ordered individually or in larger quantities for florists, events and anyone who simply loves having proteas in the house.
Like everything we grow, availability follows the season, so each year is a little different.

ABOUT ME
Hi, I'm Julie.
I’m the grower and flower lover behind Protea & Bloom, here on our family property in Pirongia.
Before flowers became my full-time focus, I was an early childhood teacher, where I loved sharing my passion for gardening and growing with the children I taught. As my own children grew, I found myself drawn more and more to life in the garden and the idea of growing something of my own.
Protea & Bloom officially began in 2020 when we planted our first rows of proteas. Soon after, my dahlia collection moved into the flower field, more seasonal blooms followed, and the farm slowly grew into what it is today.
For me, the joy is in the whole process. Nurturing a tiny seed, caring for the soil, working alongside nature and eventually picking a beautiful flower that will become part of someone else’s moment.
Whether those flowers are there for happiness, celebration, love or even sadness, I love knowing that something grown right here in Pirongia can bring a little joy to someone’s day.
I’d love to be the person who pops into your head when you think of local flowers.
Your day. Your flowers. Your way.
Every event is different, so your flowers are tailored to your style, season and requirements.
Julie grows and gathers the flowers; you do the creating. The bloom buckets are the perfect way to find your creativity. Or if you're after something in particular for your event, don't be afraid to get in touch with Julie.
HELPFUL INFORMATION
A few things before you pick your flowers
When are Protea & Bloom flowers in season?
As a seasonal flower farm, what’s available changes throughout the year.
Proteas are generally available from February through to September, spring blooms from October through December, and summer flowers from December through to the end of April.
Exact timing and availability can vary from season to season as we work alongside nature.
How far ahead should I order fresh flowers?
For custom bouquets and flower orders, please order by 10am the day before you you need them.
If you’ve left things a little later, feel free to enquire through the form as I may have freshly picked flowers available and will always do my best to accommodate your order.
Can I request particular flowers or colours?
Absolutely!
Let me know the colours, flowers or overall style you have in mind and I’ll do my best to accommodate your request.
As I work with locally grown, seasonal flowers, availability can vary. I can also source from other local flower farms when needed to complement what I have growing here.
How do DIY bloom buckets work?
Bloom buckets start from $120 and include a seasonal selection of flowers and foliage for you to arrange yourself.
Tell me about your event, colour preferences, style and budget and I’ll gather a selection to suit. Y
our flowers will be ready in buckets for collection, along with a care card explaining how to keep them looking their best.

Yes.
Custom orders can be collected directly from the farm in Pirongia. You can also find seasonal flowers at my roadside stall from Thursday to Sunday, subject to availability.
Do you offer flowers for weddings and events?
Yes.
There are three options depending on how much you’d like to do yourself: DIY bloom buckets, bridal party flowers paired with DIY buckets, or full event florals including bridal, ceremony and table flowers.
Every event is different, so your flowers are tailored to your day, with minimum spends applying to each option.
How far in advance should I enquire about wedding flowers?
As soon as you have your date in mind, it’s a good idea to get in touch.
This allows you to secure your date and gives us plenty of time to plan. If you have a particular flower or colour in mind that I don’t usually grow, enough notice may even allow me to grow something specifically for your day.
